The MGR Nagar police have arrested a 38-year-old man for defrauding 15 job aspirants after receiving ₹45.41 lakh from them under the pretext of arranging jobs in government departments.

The police said D. Mathiyazhagan, 38, of K.K. Nagar worked as a pharmacist at a private firm. He became acquainted with Vanmathi, a doctor, and her husband Pinagash Ernest of Ramapuram in 2016. The couple claimed that they had influence among officers of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) and the Health Department. The couple claimed they could get jobs in the Health Department and Tangedco on payment of ₹7 lakh and ₹3 lakh respectively. Believing this, Mathiyazhagan and others gave them a total of ₹45.41 lakh. However, the couple did not get them the jobs.

The MGR Nagar police registered a case and arrested Pingash Ernest. They are on the lookout for his wife.
