The Indonesian Government has announced five priority programmes for 2025 aimed at generating more than 3 million new jobs while strengthening the competitiveness of the country’s agro-fishery sector. The initiatives form part of the government’s broader ‘8+4+5’ Economic Policy Package, which includes eight programmes implemented this year, four continuing into 2026, and five dedicated to job creation.

The 2025 job-focused initiatives will cover village cooperatives, fishing villages, aquaculture pond revitalisation, smallholder plantation replanting, and fishing vessel modernisation, according to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto. These programmes are designed not only to expand employment opportunities but also to enhance productivity, sustainability, and local economic growth in rural and coastal communities.

Indonesian Minister of Manpower Yassierli highlighted the potential for agroforestry and green jobs, setting a target to create at least 1 million positions in the forestry sector over the next three to four years. By combining environmental sustainability with employment creation, the government aims to provide communities with diversified livelihoods while leveraging forests for food, energy, and water resources.

These measures align with President Prabowo Subianto’s Astacita vision, which emphasises sustainable economic development and community welfare. Workforce experts note that programmes like these can help bridge skill gaps, support local talent development, and offer career pathways in agro-fishery and green sectors.

With targeted interventions across multiple sectors, Indonesia is positioning itself to not only address unemployment but also ensure that new job opportunities are sustainable, inclusive, and aligned with long-term economic growth. The programmes are expected to benefit millions of workers, particularly in rural and coastal regions, while strengthening the nation’s workforce capabilities for the future.
