‘RIP H-1B’ – American techies hail Trump’s new order, ‘thousands of new jobs coming’ – Investing Abroad News

US President Donald Trump’s latest executive order has raised concerns within the tech industry and among the H-1B community by introducing a $100,000 fee on H-1B visa applications.

This new order has sent shockwaves across various industries and nations. According to the recent order, companies hiring foreign workers for H-1B visas will now be required to pay a $100,000 fee for each application.

On social media, MAGA is already celebrating the signing of this executive order.

A post on TeamBlind states, “RIP H1B visa program 1990-2025. It was nice to have you here. Trump is the best President of our lifetime. Days of outsourcing to India and China are over. $100k application fee means he has effectively killed the program. Housing market about to collapse in Bay Area and Seattle and tons of new job openings are gonna flood the market.”

Why was the new order signed?

H-1B visa program in the US has long been a subject of debate, especially in today’s tighter job market.

Many American workers have voiced frustration on social media and other platforms, arguing that foreign employees on H-1B visas are taking jobs that could otherwise go to US citizens.

As President Trump noted in his proclamation, the H-1B program was originally designed to bring in temporary workers with specialised skills to complement the American workforce.

However, he argued that it has been “deliberately exploited to replace, rather than supplement, American workers with lower-paid, lower-skilled labour.”

‘There are too many qualified American workers’

MAGA stated their opinion about the executive order.

A user noted, ” As long as such rampant age discrimination exists in tech, they shouldn’t be allowed to bring in foreign workers. There are too many qualified American workers who are being pushed out of the labor market.”

Another claimed, “They don’t need to bring foreign workers. Foreign workers can work remotely. Still cheaper than hiring Americans.”

“US has NO jurisdiction for jobs created outside of US, even the corporate entities are listed as separate. You think the companies won’t figure out a way to legally hire outside US,” added another.

“The majority of revenue comes from the US. If the companies want to risk it, it is fine,” stated another user.

“I am not a fan of Trump but is good. Time for the gravy train of cheap labor to stop. Kids with stellar degrees cant find jobs after grad. I have a ton of Indian friends but we all knew this was abusive to US citizens,” praised another user.

With the new order in place, the US is making it clear that only highly skilled professionals will qualify for H-1B visas moving forward. The so-called “American dream” will no longer be as accessible as before, especially for those without advanced expertise.
