Agra: Two youths from Agra were allegedly lured to Cambodia with promises of high-paying jobs but were instead pushed into “cyber slavery” and held captive. They were released only after paying Rs 3 lakh each. Police have now launched a probe based on the FIR filed by them.According to the FIR, complainant Saurabh Singh (20) and his acquaintance Abhigyan Singh (22) had approached accused Ajay Shukla in 2024 for overseas employment. Shukla allegedly took Rs 3.5 lakh from each, assuring them of jobs in a Cambodian company.On June 16, the duo was sent to Cambodia via Bangkok, only to find themselves forced into cyber fraud. Police said they were made to make WhatsApp calls, trick people with fake lotteries, and extract OTPs to siphon money into fraudulent accounts. When they resisted, they were held captive, and freed only after additional payments of Rs 3 lakh each were made. They managed to return to India on July 8.Based on Saurabh’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against Shukla and another unidentified person under sections 143 (trafficking of persons), 318, and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of BNS. The victims told police that several other Indian youths were also trapped at the same site, their documents seized to prevent escape. Investigators suspect many more Indians could be stuck in similar rackets across Cambodia.Recently, police also busted a gang running fake overseas job offices in different cities, duping aspirants with forged visas. “Accused Ajay Shukla and his associates have trafficked several youths. We are tracing their network of agents. A detailed report will be sent to the Union home ministry and police headquarters, as more Indians could still be stranded,” Agra police said in a statement.Police have appealed to citizens not to fall for job offers abroad without proper verification.
