Kolkata: A special CBI court on Monday night granted bail to former Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee in a case related to alleged irregularities in the recruitment of Group C staff for govt-aided schools. On September 3, the court in Alipore had granted him bail in two cash-for-job cases related to the recruitment of teachers for classes 9 to 12. The former minister secured bail on a personal bond of Rs 7,000.Whether Chatterjee, who was arrested by ED on July 22, 2022, can walk out of custody depends on what the Calcutta High Court decides in a case related to alleged corruption in recruitment of teachers for govt-aided primary schools.“He has been granted bail in all other cases against him. The case of primary teacher recruitment is being heard at the Calcutta High Court. The court has reserved the order,” said lawyer Biplab Goswami, who is representing Chatterjee. The former minister’s arrest for the jobs scam followed an ED raid at his home in south Kolkata’s Naktala. The agency also raided apartments of Chatterjee’s close associate Arpita Mukherjee in Tollygunge and Belgharia.Cash totalling around Rs 60 crore and jewellery were seized from Mukherjee’s flats. ED also impounded real estate allegedly linked to the two.CBI later joined the probe and took Chatterjee in its custody.
