Rajasthan: 25 lakh apply for peon post
Earlier this year, Rajasthan saw a similar surge when nearly 25 lakh people applied for 53,749 peon posts. The applicants included highly qualified candidates such as postgraduates, MBAs, and even PhD holders, all competing for jobs that required only a Class 10 qualification. The rush underlined how government vacancies remain a preferred option for educated youth despite the limited number of openings.
The overwhelming response also created logistical challenges. With the state able to conduct exams for only about three lakh candidates at a time, officials had to plan for multiple shifts. This raised concerns over result normalisation, an issue that had triggered protests in past recruitments.
