The Karnataka government is set to introduce a new Textile Policy 2025–30 aimed at revitalising the state’s textile sector, attracting substantial investment, and creating nearly 200,000 employment opportunities, according to Minister for Textiles, Sugarcane Development, Sugar, and Agricultural Marketing Shivanand Patil.

The announcement came after a high-level consultative meeting at Vidhana Soudha, where the minister engaged with MLAs, MLCs, and key stakeholders from the textile industry to gather inputs and recommendations for shaping the policy.

Patil confirmed that he had responded positively to requests from stakeholders to incorporate non-leather footwear and shoe industries, which fall under the small industries category, within the framework of the new policy. He stated that all suggestions received during the consultation would be given due weightage, adding that steps conducive to the development of the textile sector were already under way.

Highlighting Karnataka’s proactive approach towards industrial development, Patil revealed that a textile research centre would be established in Belagavi. The centre is expected to serve as a hub for innovation and development, supporting the state’s ambition to strengthen its position in the national textile landscape.
