Amazon India signs MoU to create jobs for veterans, spouses, and war widows

Amazon India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO) to expand career opportunities for veterans, military spouses, and war widows. The partnership aims to help members of the military community transition into civilian careers by offering recruitment pathways, training, as well as development programmes.

As part of the agreement, Amazon India will share suitable job openings with AWPO, which works across three key groups: ex-servicemen, military spouses, and war widows. The company will also organise awareness sessions through webinars and workshops, helping candidates understand available roles and career progression within Amazon.

Deepti Varma, vice president –people experience and technology, Amazon Stores India, Japan, and emerging markets, said the collaboration reflects Amazon’s commitment to building a diverse workforce. “Veterans and military spouses bring mission focus, resilience and leadership qualities that strongly align with Amazon’s culture. This partnership deepens our efforts to support their transition into meaningful careers,” she noted.

The AWPO also welcomed the move, calling it a milestone in supporting service personnel and their families.

Amazon has already integrated hundreds of veterans into its workforce in India. The company provides specialised interview preparation, mentorship through its Warriors at Amazon network, and career-advancement pathways tailored for the military community.

The initiative is also part of Amazon’s global programmes, such as the Military Hiring Programme and Military Spouse Fellowship, which promote career continuity for military families. By extending opportunities to spouses and war widows, Amazon India reinforces its broader goal of creating an inclusive workplace for underrepresented groups.
